VIRTAkytkin initially served as the VIRTA project from 2020–2021, which helped to highlight businesses in Siikajoki by voicing their stories of entrepreneurship. It is important to keep entrepreneurship in the spotlight and to use local services to ensure that the municipality continues to thrive.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP – THE REGION’S POWER SWITCH
VIRTAkytkin is Finnish for “power switch”, and the name comes from the idea that entrepreneurs are a powerhouse for the municipality. The account @virtakytkin communicates the importance of entrepreneurship to the area’s vitality: entrepreneurship keeps the area thriving. If there were no entrepreneurship, the municipality would go dark. In Siikajoki, we seek solutions, collaborate, actively participate, and get along well, without focusing on doomsday scenarios. Collaboration is power!
The VIRTAkytkin logo shows how entrepreneurship radiates vitality. Entrepreneurs can survive without the municipality, but the municipality cannot survive without entrepreneurs.
PAST HISTORY
The VIRTA project served as a mouthpiece for entrepreneurship that echoed across municipal borders. The aim of the project wasn’t to promote a single business’ sales, but to highlight the area’s entrepreneurship in general through entrepreneur stories. The project first launched on 1 January 2020 and came to an end on 30 November 2021. The project was managed by Ruukin Yrityspuisto Oy.
Here are a few key facts from the project:
- 68 entrepreneur stories written
- 86 entrepreneurs participated
- 96 companies participated
- 11 videos filmed
- 9 podcasts recorded
- There are 11 entrepreneurship videos on the YouTube channel from the time of the Virta project. Video production was expertly handled by Videcam Oy
- In collaboration with the local Siikajokilaakso newspaper, the podcast produced 9 episodes featuring discussions with local entrepreneurs.
